Neil can't really be blustery and self-important about the whole thing, even though his immediate reaction is defense. Well, actually, his first immediate reaction is trying to come up with some sot of believable lie or fabrication, something that can get him out of this specific knowing of the situation.

Instead, in the end, he slumps petulantly down in his seat and crosses his arms over his chest.
